12/19/2023 0 Comments Math study center uw![]() ![]() Michael has a bachelor's degree in history from Pomona College and has experience writing a dissertation based on original historical research.īesides taking care of his two lovely cats, Michael also enjoys reading fiction, history, and philosophy, writing short stories, practicing classical piano and voice, and spending time with his partner watching a great film.īeing an avid reader, Chelsea earned her BA in English education from San Francisco State University and her MA in English and comparative literature from San Jose State University. He's always been fascinated by language and history, ever since he met the librarian in his elementary school while checking out a visual encyclopedia of castles. He's very excited to lend his student-centered emphasis on empathy, compassion, and personal growth to his role as a language arts instructor. Michael's experience working with students at a variety of motivational and developmental levels has led to some of his biggest teaching accomplishments, including developing strong literacy and handwriting skills in at-risk fourth graders. ![]() He's always loved working with motivated students and giving them the opportunity to display their creativity and curiosity, but is always prepared to meet students' needs as he teaches, as his teaching philosophy centers on the belief that every child deserves a comprehensive education in reading, writing, and critical thinking. ![]() Michael has three years of teaching experience working with a variety of students. When not teaching and doing math, Dominic can be found playing with his three daughters at a park, practicing his guitar, or expanding his extensive music library. Most of all he loves the fun of doing math collaboratively, trading solution paths and building on one another’s ideas. He loves asking the right questions to help students solidify their conceptual understanding of the material, and making up problems that stretch students’ ability to apply new ideas. Dominic has been teaching high school math in Oakland for the past 9 years and has hosted weekly math clubs to help students build their problem solving skills. After four years of school and a year working as an engineer, he came to two conclusions that led to a career change: 1) he enjoyed math on its own more than its applications to engineering, and 2) he loved helping others find delight in discovering the beauty and order in math. Dominic’s interest in math originally led him to pursue an engineering degree at UC Berkeley, where he would often tutor friends in their math and science classes. ![]()
